Per i consueti saluti del venerdì, ho scelto la canzone “What Is Love” che è il singolo con cui il cantante trinidadiano Haddaway si è fatto conoscere al grande pubblico. La canzone è uscita l’8 maggio 1993 come primo brano del suo album di debutto, The Album.

Registrato in Germania, è diventato in poco tempo uno dei pezzi simbolo degli anni Novanta. Nel 1998 è tornato in classifica grazie alla sua presenza in Saturday Night Live e nella colonna sonora del film A Night at the Roxbury raggiungendo il primo posto in tredici paesi tra Europa e Asia.

Nel testo, Haddaway parla di un amore non ricambiato: lui ama, lei no, e così si ritrova a chiedersi cosa sia davvero l’amore, pregandola di non ferirlo ancora.

Questa canzone col suo ritmo tanto accattivante, ballabile e divertente farebbe quasi dubitare che possa parlare d’amore, e invece…

In quanto ad attrattiva anche il video ci mette decisamente del suo!
